Our Story
Automotive Lighting Specialists Since 2008
HID Systems began in 2008 with a problem I personally wanted to solve. I wanted brighter headlights so I could see better at night, but replacing an entire headlight housing was expensive. I started looking for a more affordable way to improve my vehicle's lighting without having to replace the whole assembly.
That search sparked my passion for automotive lighting and eventually led to the creation of HID Systems. What began as a personal search for better lighting grew into a business dedicated to helping other drivers find practical lighting solutions for their vehicles. Over the years, we've expanded our services to include headlight restoration, HID and LED upgrades, headlight moisture removal and resealing, custom lighting installations, and automotive electrical diagnostics.
As vehicle technology has evolved, we've continued to adapt and grow. Today, we help customers with everything from cloudy headlights and lighting upgrades to wiring problems and more complex electrical issues. We also provide mobile lighting and electrical services for commercial vehicles and fleets.
Our customers have always been an important part of our journey. We're grateful for everyone who has trusted us with their vehicles, returned for additional services, recommended us to friends and family, and taken the time to share their experiences through online reviews.
Today, HID Systems proudly serves Portland, Oregon, and the surrounding metro area. What started with one person's search for better headlights has grown into a business built around automotive lighting expertise, practical solutions, and lasting customer relationships.
Our mission is simple: help drivers see better, find the right lighting solution for their needs, and get the most out of their vehicles.
Thank you for being part of the HID Systems story since 2008.

HID Systems, a locally operated automotive lighting and electrical service business located in Portland, Oregon. We specialize in headlight repair, headlight restoration, LED and HID lighting upgrades, custom lighting installations, automotive lighting diagnostics, and electrical troubleshooting for cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, and commercial vehicles.
Our goal is to help drivers improve their vehicle lighting, address lighting and electrical problems, and find practical solutions for their specific vehicles. Whether you have cloudy headlights, moisture inside a headlight assembly, lights that are not working properly, or want to upgrade your vehicle's lighting, our team is here to help.
We understand that every vehicle is different. Some lighting problems can be resolved with a repair, while others require replacement parts, new lighting components, or further electrical diagnosis. We work to identify the problem and help customers understand their options before moving forward with a service.
At HID Systems, we believe good service starts with understanding the customer's needs, providing honest recommendations, and completing lighting and electrical work with care.

Our Automotive Lighting Services
1. Headlight Restoration
Over time, sunlight, oxidation, and weather exposure can cause plastic headlight lenses to become cloudy, yellow, or faded. Deteriorated headlight lenses can reduce light output and affect nighttime visibility.
Our headlight restoration service helps improve the clarity and appearance of cloudy headlights without automatically requiring a complete headlight assembly replacement.
Headlight restoration may be a cost-effective option when the damage is primarily on the exterior lens. If the assembly has internal damage, severe deterioration, or other problems, replacement or additional repairs may be necessary.
2. Headlight Repair, Moisture Removal and Resealing
Do you have condensation, fogging, or water inside your headlights?
Moisture inside a headlight assembly can affect lighting performance and may damage internal components if the problem continues. HID Systems provides headlight moisture removal and resealing services to address moisture intrusion when the assembly can be repaired.
Depending on the condition of the headlight, service may involve removing moisture, inspecting the housing and seals, identifying possible leak points, and resealing appropriate areas.
The best repair depends on the condition of the housing, seals, vents, and internal components. Severely damaged assemblies may require replacement.
3. LED Headlight Conversions and Upgrades
If your headlights are too dim or you want a different lighting appearance, an LED upgrade may be an option for your vehicle.
HID Systems offers LED headlight conversions and lighting upgrades, helping customers explore available options based on their vehicle, existing headlight system, compatibility, and desired results.
Before upgrading, it is important to consider bulb compatibility, beam pattern, headlight housing design, glare, and applicable lighting regulations. A brighter bulb alone does not guarantee better visibility if the light is not properly matched to the headlight assembly.
4. HID Headlight Upgrades
HID stands for High-Intensity Discharge, a lighting technology used in automotive headlights.
We help customers explore HID lighting options and address related installation or lighting issues. The right setup depends on the vehicle's original equipment, headlight housing, electrical system, and the intended application.
Our goal is to help customers select a suitable lighting solution rather than assume the same upgrade is right for every vehicle.
5. Custom Headlight Housings and Assembly Replacement
Some lighting problems require more than a bulb replacement. Damaged housings, worn components, internal failures, or incompatible aftermarket assemblies may affect the operation of a headlight. HID Systems provides assistance with headlight housing replacement, custom lighting installations, and aftermarket headlight assemblies, depending on vehicle compatibility and parts availability.
We can help customers explore repair or replacement options based on the condition of their existing headlights and their desired appearance and performance.
6. Fog Light Installation and Upgrades
Fog lights can provide additional illumination in appropriate driving conditions when properly selected and aimed.
We install fog lights and lighting upgrades for compatible vehicles, including white and amber lighting options for certain applications. Customers interested in off-road use can also ask about auxiliary lighting solutions.
Available installations depend on the vehicle, mounting locations, wiring requirements, and selected parts.
7. Off-Road, Auxiliary and Accessory Lighting
HID Systems works with lighting upgrades for trucks, SUVs, off-road vehicles, and other compatible applications.
Available services may include:
-
LED light bars and auxiliary light pods
-
Off-road spot and flood lighting
-
Amber safety and warning lights
-
Additional reverse lighting
-
Daytime running lights and exterior lighting accessories
-
Interior LED lighting and accent lighting
-
Custom lighting installations and wiring
We can help customers determine what installation approach is appropriate for their vehicle and intended use.
8. Tail Lights, Turn Signals and Exterior Lighting
Lighting problems are not limited to headlights. Faulty tail lights, turn signals, fog lights, daytime running lights, and other exterior lights can affect visibility and vehicle safety.
HID Systems provides lighting inspections, compatible lighting installations, and troubleshooting for various exterior lighting systems.
Depending on the issue, the solution may involve a bulb, connector, fuse, wiring repair, replacement assembly, or further electrical diagnosis.
9. Automotive Electrical Diagnostics and Wiring Repair
Modern vehicle lighting systems may contain control modules, electronic drivers, connectors, sensors, relays, and complex wiring. When a light stops working, replacing the bulb or complete assembly may not always solve the problem.
HID Systems provides automotive lighting and electrical troubleshooting to help identify possible causes of lighting failures.
Our diagnostic and repair services may include:
-
Headlights that do not turn on or work intermittently
-
Flickering headlights or LED lighting
-
Wiring damage, loose connections, or corroded connectors
-
Faulty lighting sockets, switches, or relays
-
Lighting installation and compatibility issues
-
Fog light, tail light, and turn signal problems
-
Electrical troubleshooting associated with aftermarket lighting
-
Inspection of relevant power and ground connections
The diagnostic process depends on the symptoms, vehicle design, and accessibility of the affected components. Once the issue is better understood, we can discuss potential repair options.
Our objective is to help customers find the actual cause of the problem instead of replacing parts unnecessarily.
10. Mobile Electrical Diagnostics and Commercial Fleet Services
HID Systems also provides mobile lighting and electrical services for commercial vehicles and fleet operators, subject to service availability and location.
For businesses that rely on work trucks, vans, and other fleet vehicles, lighting and electrical problems can interrupt schedules and affect vehicle readiness. Our mobile service brings selected diagnostic, lighting, and repair services directly to a customer's business location or fleet yard.
Mobile fleet services may include:
-
On-site lighting inspections and troubleshooting
-
Commercial truck and van lighting repairs
-
Headlight and exterior lighting upgrades
-
Wiring and electrical diagnostics
-
Amber safety light installation and troubleshooting
-
Fleet lighting maintenance and checkups
-
Assistance identifying lighting issues that require additional shop repairs
Mobile service is especially useful when a vehicle needs an on-site assessment or a lighting-related repair that can reasonably be completed at the customer's location.
Service availability depends on the vehicle, the problem, parts requirements, access to the vehicle, and the location. More complex repairs may need to be completed at our Portland shop.
For commercial fleet inquiries, contact HID Systems to discuss your vehicles, location, service needs, and scheduling.
